Babies' Class |
| |
| |
Why enroll your child
in a baby class? |
| |
| |
Brain
research suggests that babies can
make good language learners from the
age of six months old. They might
not speak yet but they are learning! |
| |
They
have many more neurons and synapses
than you or I put together! As the
child grows older these brain cells
are reduced to only those that help
the baby do the things she or he
likes to do or does the most often. |
| |
| |
The only
way to keep these cells alive is to use
them – they are like muscle cells.
Regular exercise helps them stay alive
and keeps them growing. |
| |
Our
English class use rhythm, color,
stories, touch experience and messy play
and craft to massively stimulate the
brain of your baby in the best way
possible. |
| |
Research
shows that babies who did English do
better when they come to do it in Junior
High School. Starting your baby young is
a good idea. |
| |
Some
linguists worry that it might not be the
best thing but tests show that babies
can easily learn not just one or two but
several different languages at the same
time successfully (see my blog for
details). For Junior High School kids
and adults that's a different story! |

| |
How do we do it? |
| |
| |
For
small kids and babies we know
parents make the best teachers
in the world. This means trying to
teach someone else's baby isn’t that
easy. Babies are naturally wary of
people unknown to them, are usually
reserved and so making a good
teacher-baby relationship take a lot
of skill. |
| |
We
lead the class and the moms and dads
follow us. Of course this means the
babies will follow too! At Rainbow
English we try not to teach babies
because we think learning by play is
much, much better. |
| |
Babies copy what they see people
doing so we allow them to look and
copy the teacher. |
| |
| |
Babies
like to copy what they hear so we use
finger plays, songs, rhymes, games,
chants and lots of music. |
| |
Our
program is based upon both sounds and
activity. The teacher likes to have some
one-to-one interaction with each baby
because a good relationship is
essential. |

Our Classroom |
| |
| |
It is
a colorful, light bright and airy
room. It is “a home from home”. |
| |
New
parents need to relax and enjoy
their baby's developing skills so we
designed our school with that in
mind. We know that it is hard to get
the baby ready and meet the class on
time so we do our baby class at a
reasonable time that fits most
baby's schedules. |
| |
We
have a floor covered with big soft
multicolored tiles and safe soft
toys. It is as baby-proof as a safe
home! |
| |
| |
Our staff
is relaxed if a baby cries. We are
parents too so we have a natural empathy
with babies. We know that babies
cry. It's not the end of the world and
it’s not awful. We can absolutely take
it! And we can take pleasure in the fact
that it's a normal response to a new
learning situation for the baby. |
| |
We don't
expect too much at first. We spend the
first few lessons making friends with a
low challenge limit. After your child is
comfortable we can increase the pace. |
| |
Mom or
dad needs to be comfortable too. Not
just physically, but mentally. We at
Rainbow English help moms and dads relax
as well because baby picks up clues from
the parents about how safe a situation
might be (your child can unconsciously
come to know your breathing rate, for
example). |
